Domestic auto market sales are as heated in India as the month of May itself. Nearly every auto maker posted robust sales with Maruti Suzuki posting record sales of more than one lakh units including exports. Fiat India reports 82.2 percent growth as compared to same month last year. Cumulative sales for the year (including exports) increased by 69.2% to 4,257 units.

Tata Motors posted stellar sales of 56,799 units reporting 41 percent sales growth over same period last year. Domestic sales were up by 38% at 52,801 units. The passenger vehicle segment (excluding Fiat) registered a 39% increase in sales at 21,326 vehicles. Figures for Nano stood at 3,550; 8,468 for Indica, a decrease of 15% over may last year; 6,600 for Indigo, a growth of 133% and the Sumo/Safari range sales increased by 6% to 2,708 units.

Ford posted three-fold jump in sales in May 2010 to 8080 units owing the response received for its new small car Ford Figo. "We have achieved more than 20,000 bookings since launch and are happy to see more and more Ford Figos gaining visibility and presence on road," Ford India President and Managing Director Michael Boneham said.

Mahindra and Mahindra has been in news lately for its complete acquisition of Logan and then acquiring stake in Reva Electric to produce electric vehicle range. It also reported 63.05 percent increase in domestic sales at 27,036 units. Sales of Logan also went up by 5.35 percent to 450 units compared to 427 units in the same month previous year.
