In order to reduce the hassle of carrying physical documents of your vehicle every time you drive or ride, the Indian Government will soon introduce a digital copy of the driving licence and vehicle registration which can be viewed over your smartphone. Last year, the government had introduced the DigiLocker app which performs as a digital locker for all government documents. This time around DigoLocker has partnered with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for the convenience of the motorists.

      DigiLocker Mobile App

The DigiLocker Android application is easy to use as it verifies the user’s phone number using an OTP. Once connected to the app, the user has to fill in Aadhar card details and start uploading documents which are scanned by you or are issued by the government agencies in e-document format. The Traffic Police can also view the documents via their own version of DigiLocker app installed in their device. It can also be used for issuing penalty points accordingly.

The data on the app is safely saved in cloud storage space. An official government release in the regard states that, “besides being convenient for people, this will also result in assured authenticity of such documents and reduction of administrative overhead.” Once enforced, the motorists will no longer need to carry physical copies of their driving licence and vehicle registration certificate.
