The Bentley Bentayga is the first ever Bentley to get a diesel engine. Departing from its petrol-only line-up the luxury marque from Britain has chosen the latest 4.0-litre V8 oil-burner to power the SUV.

The 4.0-litre V8 has been borrowed from the Audi SQ7 and belts out 429bhp of power and a massive 900Nm of torque and sends power to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The 900Nm of torque ensures that the large SUV is propelled past 100kmph from standstill in 4.8 seconds and the power figures take it to a top whack of 270kmph. The 4.0-litre diesel V8 is one of the first production engines to employ electric powered forced induction. The supercharger is said to provide boost right from the go with help of the 48V motor after which the twin turbochargers keep generating boost. With the new, comparatively efficient, engine combined with a large fuel tank, the Bentley can potentially go for 1,000kms in a tank-full.
The diesel engine powered Bentley will be available for customers in Europe early next year followed by Russia, South Africa, Australia and other countries. For those who would want to buy the luxury Bentley SUV in India, you will have to probably wait till end of 2017 for the car if not 2018.
