Hyundai Motors India Limited is India’s largest car exporter and second largest car manufacturer. The company already has a strong presence in the small car market with successful models like Santro and i10. It also has a remarkable presence in the sedan segment with models like Accent, Verna and Sonata. Hyundai is gearing up to introduce several models at the upcoming Auto Show 2010.
Hyundai is planning to unveil its new SUV model Santa Fe for its Indian customers. The model is already extremely successful in the overseas market and with the growing SUV segment, Hyundai feels it is the right time to introduce the vehicle in the Indian market. “At the moment, we are just studying Santa Fe for the Indian market as premium segment is doing pretty well in the past few years. However, it is still in the investigation stage and we will decide its roll out in the medium term. We have yet not decided whether it would be assembled or imported. But Tucson is not going to get discontinued.” Santa Fe will be pitted against models like Honda CRV and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
Hyundai also intends to showcase its premium luxury car, Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The model has already won Car of the Year award in China, Canada and North America. The company may not actually introduce the model in the Indian market but will showcase the model at the Auto Show to test waters. It might sell limited numbers from selected sources.
Hyundai already sells its SUV Tucson in India powered by 2.0L engine. It will unveil the new generation Tucson/ix35 which is also expected to be an exhibit like Genesis.
