Much progress has been achieved in enforcement of the alliance between PSA Peugeot Citroen and General Motors (GM). A Master Agreement had been signed on 29th February 2012, and currently the definitive agreements have been signed for three initial vehicle projects. Signatures on the current agreements confirm the Global Strategic Alliance signed between the two companies.

As part of the three initial projects, platform sharing would take place between PSA Peugeot Citroen and GM. These projects would be as follows: a common program for a C-MPV (Multi Purpose vehicle for C segment) platform for Opel/Vauxhall and a C-CUV (Cross over Utility Vehicle for C segment) for Peugeot, a joint program for B segments in both companies, and co-development on an upgraded low-CO2 emission B segment platform to fit next generation cars of Opel/Vauxhall and PSA, in Europe and other regions of the world.

In terms of purchasing reach, the purchasing Joint Venture would help to align the synergies of Peugeot, Citroen and Opel/Vauxhall. However, each vehicle would be built as per its individual brand characteristics, which will differentiate them from each other. A number of other joint venture projects are under review, and are subject to approval at a later date.

Depending on the success of the above mentioned projects, the partners also have intentions to strengthen their alliance on a global scale, through the following initiatives: co-development on next generation fuel efficient small gas engine derived from PSA's global small engine program, and investigation of product opportunities in South America and other emerging markets.

As a product of the alliance, the first vehicles are expected to be launched in 2016.
