Datsun has officially announced the unveiling of their new hatchback model for India. The unveiling will take place on April 14 in New Delhi, followed by a launch sometime in June. This new hatchback, based on the Redi-Go, will be positioned in the price-sensitive entry-level small car segment.

Datsun first showed us the Redi-Go at the 2014 Auto Expo and since then, the brand has been busy working on the production-spec model for the Indian market. This new model is essentially Datsun’s version of the Renault Kwid since it’s based on the same CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault hatchback.

Now although it shares its underpinnings with the Kwid, Datsun’s forthcoming model may not come with the same drivetrain. Going by previous reports, Datsun would bring in a new petrol engine and not source the existing 800cc petrol engine. The latter produces 54bhp of power and 72Nm of torque and is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. When launched, the new hatchback will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 as its arch rival.
