From tomorrow, there will be a new competitor to the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Renault Kwid in the entry-level segment of cars in India. The Datsun Redigo will be launched in India tomorrow at an event in Mumbai.

In terms of looks, the Redigo has changed the perception that entry-level hatchbacks need not look average or boring. The modern car gets a design replicating the concept car that was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo. The car rides on the same platform as the Renault Kwid, but has a higher ground clearance of 185mm.

The cabin of the top-end S Redigo is equipped with all the features including a driver-side airbag missing on the other variants. The other variants do get fabric upholstery as a standard option and power steering, front power windows and an infotainment system compatible with CD, USB and AUX can be had.

The Datsun Redigo is powered by a three-cylinder engine pumping out around 54bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. This mill comes mated to a five-speed manual, sending power to the front wheels.

Datsun will reveal the variant-wise prices tomorrow when we will be able to know how it will fare against the competition in terms of pricing. It is expected to be priced at a starting price of Rs 2.39 lakh for the D trim.
