The starting price of the Datsun Redigo was leaked yesterday. It entry-level hatchback should carry a price tag of Rs 2.39 lakh, thus undercutting the segment leader Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 by a decent margin.
The Redigo is based on the same CMFA platform as the Renault Kwid and we were expecting a price tag of around Rs 2.5 lakh. The leaked price is substantially lower, especially considering the fact that it is a new generation car and has larger dimensions than most of its competitors.
The Redigo is scheduled to launch on June 7 and will use the same 800cc petrol engine as the Kwid, delivering 53bhp and 72Nm of torque. The power goes to the front wheels via the five-speed manual transmission. Datsun offers lesser features in the Redigo compared to the Kwid, it will miss out on the touch-screen system and would offer few others as optional extras. The Redigo will be available in five colours - ruby red, white, silver, lime green, and grey and will compete with Hyundai Eon, Maruti Alto 800 and Renault Kwid.
