Datsun has announced that the Redigo 1.0-litre model will be launched in the Indian market on 26 July. Bookings for the compact hatchback began today and it will be offered in two variants when launched.

Datsun to launch the Redigo one litre in India on July 26

The CMF-A underpinned Datsun Redigo shares much of its bit underneath with its sister car the Renault Kwid and so gets the same 1.0-litre unit. This is a three-cylinder petrol motor outputting 67bhp/91Nm of torque with power going to the front wheels via a five-speed manual. It has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 22.5kmpl. In the logical progression of things, we can expect that, a few months down the line, Datsun will offer the Redigo with an AMT.

The Redgio in the 1.0-litre range will be offered in the T (O) and S trim levels. These are the top-of-the-line trims for the hatchback and gets features like black interior, fabric seats, front power windows, body coloured bumpers and a 2-DIN music system. Among these two, the S trim has LED DRLs and a driver’s side airbag as additional features.

We believe that Datsun will price the 1.0-litre Redigo at Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000 more than the equivalent 800cc variants. It will take on the likes of the Hyundai Eon 1.0-litre, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 as well as the Renault Kwid.
