Datsun has taken the wraps off the production version of the Redi-Go hatchback. It had unveiled the concept car at the 2014 Auto Expo and today was its global unveiling in its production form. This will be the third vehicle from Nissan’s budget brand when launched.

In terms of looks, the Redi-GO has stayed quite true to the concept car that was shown in 2014. The sporty design of the vehicle is a major departure from the conservative lines played out on the Go hatchback and Go+ mini MPV. The face of the redi-GO is dominated by the large grille and blue Datsun logo while the side profile has power lines and a distinct ridge that extends all the way to the rear and connects with the sloping roofline. The ground clearance is 185mm.

At the back, we can see distinct boomerang shaped tail lamps and a roof mounted spoiler. While the Kwid has gone down the pseudo SUV route, the redi-GO has a taller stance and takes advantage of higher vertical room in the design.

The cabin of the redi-Go is very similar to what is being offered in the other Datsun models. It has been trimmed in a beige and grey combination and has features like music system with CD, AUX and USB input as well AC and power windows for the front passengers.

The redi-GO is underpinned by the same CMF-A platform found in the Renault Kwid and will be offered with the three-cylinder 800cc petrol mill. This engine in the Kwid produces 57bhp and 90Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. We expect a similar output in this car. It is expected that the automaker will also offer the 1.0-litre engine with the AMT option for the redi-GO at a later date.

Booking for the car will begin on May 1 and it will be launched for the Indian market by the first week of June.
