Datsun, the completely owned brand of Japanese auto maker Nissan, will be soon launching its new entry level hatchback in the Indian market. Reportedly, the company is all set to make its worldwide debut in July 2013 at the Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon. The new model from Datusn is anticipated to challenge the dominance of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon, which both are currently ruling the entry level hatchback segment of the Indian auto market.

Sources further revealed that the upcoming model from Datsun brand happens to be a previous generation model of Nissan Micra, which has been now upgraded to meet the demands of price sensitive Indian buyers. However, the Datsun hatchback will feature a new designing language as compared to the erstwhile Micra. Also, the upcoming hatchback will have sleek dimensions, but will have ample space at interiors. The new Datsun hatchback will come equipped with a number of standard features and is likely to be priced less than Rs. 4 lakh.

Coming to the technical configuration of the upcoming model, it will come assimilated with the same 1.2 litre petrol engine, which is doing a good job in Nissan Micra. It must be noted that as of now, no confirmation for the launch of a diesel model has been made by the auto maker. Industry experts are of a view that since the model will be equipped with a 1.2 litre engine, it will be much powerful than its close rivals, Alto 800 and Eon.

Along with this compact hatchback, the auto maker is also planning the launch of utility vehicle for the Indian market, which will have a seating capacity of seven passengers. Reportedly, this seven seater model will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Xylo, which clearly indicates that it will feature a diesel engine. Sources said that it is likely to come incorporated with 1.5 dCi engine, which has been performing fairly good in the Nissan Micra, Sunny and Evalia.
