Daimler AG, the German truck maker, seems to have been working towards expanding its product portfolio in the Indian market as the company is all set to introduce new light duty trucks from its Oragadam manufacturing unit.

The completely owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, Daimler India, introduced three heavy duty trucks, namely 2523R, 3123R and 2523C, off late. The 2523R and 3123R were placed in the haulage segment, while 2523C was targeted to the construction sector under the head of 'BharatBenz'.

The Indian arm of Daimler AG started manufacturing light duty vehicles in 9-12 tonne rigid and 12 tonne construction sectors. Daimler said in a statement, “BharatBenz will soon be ready with its offerings in the light duty segment that are based on the Fuso Canter platform.”

The Commercial Vehicle Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Daimler India, Marc Llistosella, said, “We are well on track with our growth strategies and will have a good product mix for the customers. With fuel prices soaring, customers will want trucks that are more fuel efficient, reliable and robust.”

The upcoming line-up of light duty truck will feature four valves per cylinder with two different engines, 140 bhp and 170 bhp. Llistosella further said, “In the coming months we would strategically release the products in the market that will include LDT and HDT range.”

Before the official launch of these light duty trucks, BharatBenz will test the vehicles under different road conditions. Besides, these new models are expected to deliver an additional of 10 per cent fuel economy under the review of models introduced by the other auto makers.
