As per the latest market research, it has been revealed that customers in India are slowly migrating to higher-quality brands. This is certainly a good news for auto companies that always strive to bring about quality products for buyers. It also means, though indirectly, that competition in the market to lure domestic customers with sheer quality and new innovations is only going to intensify. According to the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2013 India Initial Quality Study (IQS): 'New-vehicle buyers in India are more frequently choosing to purchase vehicles with fewer initial quality problems.' Certainly, it is a clear justification of what's discussed above.

If the study is to be closely analysed with respect to sales volumes of auto companies that sell high-quality products with minimum reporting of initial quality problems, one will find that sales volumes have only increased by up to 6 per cent since the year 2011. On the contrary, those auto companies, which saw frequent quality problems creeping-in than industry average have registered a decline in sales by 8 per cent during the same time period.

Mohit Arora, Executive Director at J.D. Power Asia Pacific, Singapore, while giving more insight said, “With quality being one of the key drivers for purchasing vehicles, automakers need to focus on achieving exceptional quality levels. Manufacturers that are able to consistently deliver a high level of quality may be able to garner much higher growth in sales, even in today's challenging economic environment. On average, sales volume among vehicles that ranked highest in their segment in 2013 has more than doubled since 2011.”

The report also revealed the names of Honda, Toyota and Maruti Suzuki for consistently delivering high quality products to customers with little remarks on quality issues. Vehicles like Honda Brio (upper compact segment), Honda Amaze (entry mid-size), Honda City (mid-size), Toyota Innova (MUV/ MPV), Toyota Corolla Altis (premium mid-size), Toyota Fortuner (SUV), Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 (entry compact) and Maruti Suzuki Swift (premium compact) have been named in the J.D. Power Reports for vowing customers in their respect segments.
