According to reports, Nissan is planning to come up with a model in line with Duster, which is expected to be named as 'Terrano'. Many believe that this Duster inspired model has taken cues from X-Trail, especially in terms of exteriors. Some sources say that Terrano is not a new name and Nissan had an SUV model with the same name. The same is believed to have existed in European markets during 1993-2006, named as Mistral and Ford Maverick in some markets.

Terrano will be produced at the auto maker’s Oragadam plant, joining Micra, Sunny and Evalia. Terrano is the fourth locally-built model of Nissan. Priced at around INR 50,000 to INR 75,000 over the Renault Duster was surprising for many. It reflects the auto maker’s plan to put Terrano in the premium category. Ironically, the past reflects quite the opposite as the Micra and Sunny were priced below the Pulse and Scala, respectively.

Reports reveal that the premium exteriors and spaciousness of the Terrano justify its higher price. The SUV sports a new fascia, bumper, tailgate along with the newly modified headlamps and tail lamps. However, the report interestingly says that there will be zero to no changes as far as the interiors of the car are concerned, apart from the Nissan’s logo at the steering wheel.

Company CEO and President of Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd, Kenichiro Yomura said that Terrano will play a key role in increasing sales in the Indian market. He was quoted as saying, “I am delighted to reveal both the name and the very first image of what will be a very important model for Nissan.”  The President further added, “You can see from the sketch that Terrano has a bold and distinctive design that I am confident will appeal to our growing customer base in India, as will its driving performance and range of other features that will be revealed at a later date.”

Some sources state that Nissan Terrano might have some specifications similar to the X-Trail. The company plans to launch the all new Terrano towards the end of 2013. This is a strong indication that the Nissan Terrano will be up for some test-runs soon, allowing a lucky few to catch a glimpse of this new vehicle.
