Porsche is known for its supremely engineered cars that focus on performance over anything else. The new Porsche Macan R4 that has been introduced to India at a price tag of Rs 76.84 lakh is now the most affordable Porsche SUV. But it comes with a four cylinder engine. Despite being a 2.0-litre, Porsche has worked its magic and ensured it lives up to its name.

Talking about sporty five seater SUVs, there are two more cars that should be considered – the Jaguar F-Pace and the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG Coupe. So here is how the Porsche Macan R4 fares against the leaping cat and the three-pointed star.

      Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG Coupe

Performance first, the Mercedes GLE Coupe gets a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6 engine that belts out 367bhp of power and 520Nm of torque, much higher the Porsche Macan R4. Being an AMG, the interior is luxurious and much more comfortable as compared to the entry-level trim of the Porsche. But there is something that the Porsche badge offers – exclusivity. Mercedes cars have become quite common now and with the new family face, almost all Mercedes SUVs look fairly the same. Also, the coupe on steroids look of the GLE Coupe might not be for everyone’s taste. And then comes the price tag which is Rs 13 lakh higher than the Porsche.

      Jaguar F-Pace

The Jaguar F-Pace in India concentrates more on luxury than performance. So comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges but with the price tags so close, you ought to give the Jaguar a chance. The F-Pace is the first ever SUV built by Jaguar and is just a few weeks old in India. The design is fresh and new and it scores over the Porsche face that has essentially been the same since the 2003 Cayenne. The Jaguar is slightly bigger in size as well and the interior of the Prestige trim is plush as compared to the Porsche. On the other hand, the Porsche wins on the performance front with a 252bhp turbocharged petrol as against the measly 177bhp from the 2.0-litre Jaguar turbodiesel. Both get all-wheel-drive but the Porsche being lighter, might hold an advantage.
