Competition is definitely worth its salt when two renowned cars from the hatchback segment take it head-on. Maruti Suzuki Swift has been in the market for quite a while now. The hatchback features in the top seller list for hatchback cars in India. On the other hand, the Honda Jazz created a stir in the market with stunning design and philosophy. The car went off the production line owing to its higher price tag and lesser fuel efficiency.

The current generation Maruti Suzuki Swift carries a 1.2 litre petrol K-series engine. The motor in this car is refined and responds well to feet-tapping on the accelerator pedal. Handling has never been a problem with Swift since its launch in early 2000's. Based on reports, Swift's cabin space has been stated to be noise-free. Interiors of the new Swift feature more-or-less a similar pattern. The interiors are fairly decent with a black theme. The rear-seat legroom has been increased in comparison to the older model. Seats have also undergone changes with a good thigh and back support. A well designed chassis and improved suspension delivers a smoother ride in our unpredictable local road conditions. Moreover, its powerful engine stays upright and is ready for game!

Change is welcome, especially when its from your favorite car, Honda Jazz. The beloved hatchback is set for relaunch during the upcoming Auto Expo event. The previous 1.2 litre i-VTEC petrol car went off the production line due to rising fuel prices. This time the hatchback is also available in diesel version along with the existing petrol version. The car had been recently unveiled at the Detroit Motor show and is expected to be unveiled in India during the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo event.

It is uncertain if the hatchback shall carry its old name Jazz or shall be rechristened as Fit for the Indian market. As per sources, the new engine in Jazz shall follow the Amaze sedan line, and shall be available in two fuel options – 1.2 litre petrol and the new 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine generates about 86PS with 109Nm of torque, whereas its diesel counterpart generates about 100PS with 200Nm of torque. Sources have also stated a possibility of new diesel engine in Jazz to be detuned to the 90PS mark, this is mainly done to extract better fuel efficiency from the engine and stand at a competitive platform with its competitors. It is expected that the car may retain the five-speed auto box found in petrol versions of Amaze and Brio models.
