City and Jazz Hondas Pleasure and Displeasure

Honda Jazz has a major drawback – its price. The car though of high quality with its Honda badge, hada dip in its sales last month. Although the figures have recovered so far, the car still fails to make a strong presence in the Indian market. It falls in the price range of Rs. 7.4 lakh -7.8 lakh which makes the average car buyer jump to the sedan segment rather than opting for a super premium hatchback model.

On the other hand, City continues to be a growing pleasure for Honda. Priced at Rs. 8.8 lakh – Rs. 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), City recorded three times the sale of Jazz as it gets a competitive edge of offering similar features as Jazz and yet being a sedan. Jazz and City share nearly 60 percent features but Jazz is still a small car!

Indian auto customer is extremely price sensitive and would prefer to go in for a big car for a little higher price rather than pay for the luxuries in a small car. Jazz in this aspect fails strongly. Existing Jazz customers are primarily Honda’s ex-customers who have experience Civicd, City, and Accord first hand. Jazz is targetted at customers aged 40+ but the price is definitely not suitable for them and at that age, buyers might prefer a sedan.
