Citroen’s has lauchned its new C5. The most powerful car from its portfolio, the C5 carries sharp looks and superior quality technology to deliver the smoothest ride. It is powered by 237bhp 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbodiesel engine which is already present in Jaguar XF. The engine delivers just more than superior performance. It is cleaner and more efficient. Emissions have been cut by 12 percent to 195g per km and economy is up 13 percent to 16.25 kmpl. Emissions for the petrol variants range between 188 and 198g/km while the diesels range between 149 and 225g/km. The car competes with Ford Mondeo in the market but falls short in competing head on.

The top end model is clad in leather and priced at Rs. 20.66 lakh. The exteriors have also been face lifted and now the model features double chevron grille concave glass area. The car offers executive level of comfort and looks like a junior executive car.

Citroen also unveiled the new C5 Airscape concept car at the Frankfurt Auto Show 2009 last month. The model features environmentally friendly technology including an “UrbanHybrid” management system and enhanced traction control. The UrbanHybrid system helps reduce CO2 emissions by 24g/km on the combined cycle, also switches off the engine when the vehicle is at standstill, before starting it again instantly once the accelerator is pressed. One of the striking features of the new concept car is the automatically folding, carbon-fibre top with integrated sunroof and textile lining.
