There are several factors that need to be taken into account while choosing between diesel and petrol variants of a particular vehicle. For a while now, diesel cars have been preferred by customers in India due to their economic viability. Now, the first and foremost consideration that needs to be taken into account is budget range as it directly affects the buying decision. For anyone who has restricted affordability, choosing Duster petrol would be a better choice. On the other hand, a person willing to shell out a few more bucks can opt for the diesel version of the Duster. However, a buyer choosing the diesel variant of the Renault Duster should take into account the utility level they derive for paying that extra amount. Another factor that comes into play is the amount of average distance covered by a person. If a buyer drives for long distances regularly, then the diesel version is preferable. On the other hand, Duster petrol is suitable for people living in cities who want a vehicle for short distances.

Renault Duster Petrol is powered by a four-cylinder K4M engine that offers a displacement of 1598 cc, peak power of 102.6 bhp at 5850 rpm and maximum torque output of 145 Nm at 3750 rpm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox having a multi-point fuel injection fuel system. Renault Duster powered by petrol engine has the ability to deliver a mileage of 13.24 kmpl. The petrol version comes in two variants, namely RxL and RxE.

The diesel variant of Renault Duster comes equipped with a four-cylinder K9K engine delivering a peak power of 83.8 bhp at 3750 rpm and maximum torque of 200 Nm at 1900 rpm. It gets the common rail injection (dCi) fuel system mated with either 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearbox. Another variant of the 1461 cc diesel powertrain of Renault Duster produces maximum power of 108.5 bhp at 3900 rpm and peak torque of 248 Nm at 2250 rpm. The diesel variant offers higher mileage as compared to the petrol variant of Renault Duster with a value of 20.45 kmpl by the engine delivering a power output of 83.8 bhp. However, the diesel engine that gives a power output of 108.5 bhp has the ability to give a fuel efficiency of 19.01 kmpl. The diesel powered SUV comes in three versions i.e. RxE, RxZ and RxL. The K9K version employed in this SUV is a series of straight-4 turbocharged diesel engines developed together by the two auto majors, Nissan and Renault.

Petrol engines were the oldest powertrains to be developed, however, with continuous researches diesel, LPG and CNG variants were developed. However, this hasn't brought down the significance of petrol engines in any case. Nowadays, a few people have started going for diesel engines due to which every model is coming in both the versions. To put things in a nutshell, the choice between petrol and diesel versions of Renault Duster entirely depends on the individual. As mentioned above, a buyer should put all factors into consideration before deciding which variant to purchase. Both versions serve different purposes and consequently, would suit each individual in a distinct way.
