Chevrolet was caught testing their 2019 Malibu outside GM’s testing facility called the Milford Proving Grounds in the state of Michigan. With heavy camouflage covering the prototype, it’s difficult to exactly decipher what are the changes, but one can expect a restyled front and rear fascia along with an updated list of features.

The 2019 Chevrolet Malibu will continue to be powered by the current range of engines which include a 160bhp 1.5-litre engine and a 250bhp 2.0-litre motor. These are currently mated to a six-speed auto and a new nine-speed auto gearbox respectively.

Nevertheless, sources report that the upcoming Malibu may also get the 1.6-litre diesel motor that is found in the Equinox and Cruze models, along with the current nine-speed gearbox. Furthermore, it is believed that a hybrid motor may also make it to the range.

Since this is just the second sighting of the upcoming Malibu test car, there is still some time until the new car makes it to showrooms. Sources add that the new Malibu could be introduced in the second half of 2018, so stay tuned to CarTrade for more news.
