Chevrolet will stop retailing its SUV model Tavera from today as the new emission norms come into effect. The old model is not compliant with the new emission norms and will not be sold in 13 cities of India from today onwards. Chevrolet Tavera is powered by 2.5L diesel engine and does not meet the new BS-IV emission norms. The company has decided not to upgrade the engine which means it will be sold only in the BS-III cities of India.

A senior official from General Motors India confirmed the reports stating that it is true that the company will not retail the model in 13 cities of India where BS-IV norms become applicable. However, he refused to confirm whether the model will be eventually phased out or not.

On the other hand, India’s once most popular car model M800 also goes out of the market from today. Maruti has already launched its replacement Suzuki Cervo in the Japanese market but has not yet announced anything for the Indian market.

Skoda Auto had also earlier announced that its most popular sedan model Skoda Octavia will also be not sold in 13 cities of the country when the new emission norms become effective.
