American automobile corporation General Motors confirmed that their new hatchback Chevrolet Sail will be launched in India on 2nd November. As the festive season approaches, carmakers are trying to benefit from increased sales. As various other auto companies have been focussing on advertising, promotions and lucrative offers, GM decided to bring in a new entrant into the market. The new Chevrolet Sail U-VA is being strategically launched in India just days ahead of Diwali. The price for the petrol version is expected to start at Rs. 4.5 lacs, whereas the diesel variant is expected to be priced from Rs. 5.5 lacs.
The segment has many popular cars in the market and Sail will face competition from Maruti Suzuki Swift, Volkswagon Polo and Hyundai i20. General Motors has worked in collaboration with SAIC, their Chinese counterparts, to develop the car which is being offered with a fuel-efficient diesel variant.
Interiors of the new Sail U-VA are swankier than the other Chevrolet hatchback cars with greater space in beige colour to make them more elegant. The fuel-efficient 1.3 litre multijet engine, delivering 22.1 kmpl, has been developed by the company along with Fiat. With a fuel-efficiency of 18.2 kmpl, the 1.2 litre petrol four cylinder engine is also a smart bet.
The collaboration of General Motors and SAIC have more lined up for the near future. Once Sail U-VA is successfully launched, two more products are in the pipeline, one being the Sail sedan. The other is the much-hyped Enjoy, a seven-seater MPV expected to be launched in the next couple of months.
