After a lacklustre 2012, General Motors India seems all set to witness an increase in its market share during the current year, on the back of new vehicles. One of these is the new Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV), Chevrolet Enjoy, designed to take on competition from segment leader Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Further, the company launched Chevrolet Sail compact sedan in February 2013, which managed to garner more than 7000 bookings.

General Motors India is hopeful that that the Enjoy and the Sail sedan will help it in selling 1,00,000 units this year. Prior to the launch, the Chevrolet Enjoy was last seen at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo and vehicle is already being sold in the Chinese auto market. It is one of the most ambitious products for General Motors, which is expected to cement its place in the growing MPV segment. At present, Maruti Suzuki sells in excess of 5,000 Ertiga vehicles in a month. The Enjoy is longer and taller than the Ertiga, but cheaper than the high selling Toyota Innova. It is also less expensive than the Nissan Evalia, which has not managed to sell in great numbers.

The Enjoy is powered by two different engines, namely a 1.4 litre petrol version and a 1.3 diesel version. Both engines of the Enjoy are mated to 5-Speed manual gearboxes. There is no option of automatic transmission on this vehicle. Higher variants get ABS, roof mounted AC vents for the rear row, luxurious captain seats and 12 V charging point near the middle row. From the inside, the vehicle offers great legroom and headroom, which makes it comfortable during a long drive. This is due to the long 2720 mm wheelbase of the vehicle, that liberates a lot of space on the inside.

For the month of April 2013, General Motors India recorded an increase of 2.4 per cent in its sales figures, compared with the previous year. This was buoyed by the high sales of the Chevrolet Sail sedan. Industry experts believe that high numbers can also be expected in the current year from the sales of new Chevrolet Enjoy MPV.
