The appeal came through Raman Singh, Chief Minister (CM) of Chattisgarh, on December 8, 2012 in Kolkata. The CM affirmed that his state's land is rich in raw materials and offers efficient infrastructure, which could be exploited to good use if Tata Motors installs a unit there.

Commenting on the issue Singh told few reporters on the sidelines, “Yes we have made a special request to the Tatas to come, see and explore opportunities for investment in the State (of Chattisgarh).” On being enquired about if he wanted Tata Motors to start automotive operations in the state, Singh answered in an affirmative tone, “Of course, I have asked them (Tata Motors) to come and see what they can do in the State.”

The Chattisgarh CM underlined the idea that his state is an enticing proposition and a viable investment destination, besides USP is its having a rich cache of minerals and raw materials. Singh assured top industry players and investors that National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) has some concrete plans to install a manufacturing unit in Bastar, Chattisgarh. The upcoming facility will be built at a projected investment of around Rs. 10,000 crore.
