Celerio to roll out first from Suzuki s upcoming Gujarat facility

MSI’s newly launched hatchback in India, Celerio would be the first hatchback to be rolled out from the Suzuki’s upcoming plant in Gujarat. Other models to be produced in the facility are the YRA and YRD vehicles (these are the internal names of the vehicles). For now the YRA compact hatchback and the YRD will be manufactured at the company’s Manesar plant. These two vehicles will be introduced in 2015, therefore for now all we have is their internal names. Suzuki’s new facility at Gujarat is expected to be operational by end of 2016 or beginning of 2017 which means that there are still around 3 years for the facility to be functional. The corporate headquarters of the facility will be at the Maruti’s regional office in Ahmedabad. Suzuki envisages to manufacture 2,25,000 units annually at the Gujarat plant.

Currently, Celerio is being produced at the company’s Manesr plant which has a production capacity of around 60,000 units. By 2015, MSI eyes to increase production at Manesar facility from 60,000 units to 1,00,000 units. Maruti launched Celerio at the 12thAuto Expo which was held earlier this month. With an average of 1000 thousand bookings every day, Celerio had roped in 14,000 bookings within two weeks of its launch. Most of the bookings received account for the automated manual transmission variant. Therefore the company needs to raise production to meet growing demand.

By September, MSI plans to launch Ciaz sedan and has plans to introduce it in international markets too. Upgraded Swift and Dzire will also be rolled out this year by festive season.
