The Indian automobile industry, which has been going through a high demand momentum since the starting of year 2010, signaled a continued growth by registering high sales in the last month of the year as well. Both homegrown and foreign based car makers registered a robust growth in the sales of their cars during this month.
The Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki that holds the tag of number one car maker in the country, reported a 17 per cent growth in its car sales during Dec 2010 as against the sales in the month of Dec 2009. The company managed to sell a total of 99,225 vehicles in this month. As per a statement given by Mr. R.C. Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki, "The competition has been building up for some years now, but the key parameters remain the same -- good products, competitive pricing and good after-sales service."
Ford India emerged as one of the fastest growing car makers in the Indian market during this month. The company sold a total of 4,301 units of its cars in this month, accounting for a whooping sales increase 172 percent over the units sold in the same month last year. Also, the sales of Volkswagen India that has recently debuted in the entry level sedan segment by rolling out Vento in the Indian market surged 14 times.
The sales of country’s second largest car maker Hyundai surged by 17 percent during this month. The country’s cheapest car Tata Nano rebounded to 5,784 units from mere 509 units in Nov 2010.
