From the films of yesteryear to those releasing recently, car chases have become an integral part of Indian movies. Among a host of car chase sequences that were shown in blockbuster movies, few deserve a special mention.
Don
The climax scene in the movie where a wounded Amitabh Bachchan is seen in a car chase sequence was shot at night. Even today, the scene grabs much attention of movie buffs and finds itself among the most famous car chase sequences ever shown in Bollywood.
Dhoom series
The 2004 Dhoom featuring John Abraham, Abhishek and Uday Chopra captivated audience with its furious bike chases. The upcoming Dhoom 3 series will have racing cars like the Koenigsegg CCX, Ford Mustang, Nissan 370Z and some other modified cars.
Race
The action scenes of the movie were filmed in South Africa, wherein the pulse racing car chases emerged as the primary factor of the movie's success at the box office.
Ta Ra Rum Pum
The film was entirely based on car racing and defined the sport in an all-new way on the 70 mm screen. The film got rave reviews from critics for the car racing scenes that were shot using original race tracks.
Golmaal and All the Best
Rohit Shetty, the Director of both these movies is known for using car stunts in his movies to bring the audience to theatres. Both the films were successful in clicking with the audience through spectacular car stunts and chases.
Ra.One
A sci-fi film, Ra.One showed plethora of car chases and destruction using graphics and eventually, surfaced as a huge hit in India and abroad too.
Don 2
Cars including Hyundai Santa Fe, Alfa Romeo MiTo, Hyundai Sonata 2012 and BMW 5 Series have been used in the car chase sequences in the recently released Don 2. One car chase scene shot in Berlin used 67 cars that race past each other.
Not only these movies but many more have received rave reviews for the cars displayed in them. Car chases have allowed filmmakers to go beyond the unseen and bring action sequences in an all new form.
