      Car buyers in Karnataka reportedly pay the highest road tax, whereas lowest reported in North East

      Latest reports from sources has reported Karnataka's car buyers to be payers of the highest road tax on passenger vehicles across all price slabs. Road tax is stated to be around 14.43% in Karnataka, whereas Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu charge about 12% and 10% respectively. Rates in northern states, which indeed comprises a high volume market, are reportedly between 8% to 4% for cheaper cars and are about 8% for mid-segment cars.

      As for diesel run passenger vehicles, Delhi and Maharashtra reportedly charge a higher tax percentage, whereas CNG fueled vehicles attract the lowest road tax cost in Maharashtra. The states that collect the lowest percentage of road tax are – Sikkim - <1%, Meghalaya - <2.5%, Mizoram - <3%, Tripura - <1.5%, Arunachal - <3.5% and Chandigarh - <4%.
