Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL), a completely owned subsidiary of the Japanese multinational auto major Honda Motor Co., has stopped the domestic production of its Jazz premium hatchback in the country. The company resorted to the surprising move, in order to accommodate the local assembly of its upcoming Honda Amaze entry level sedan, which is expected to hit Indian roads in April 2013. The revelation came through a company's spokesperson and it is also believed that Honda Jazz will be temporarily put off the domestic market from March 2013.

Informing about the company's decision, a spokesperson of Honda Cars India, was quoted as saying, “We will have a gap in the production of the current Honda Jazz from March 2013 onwards. The next generation Jazz is planned to be introduced in India in 2014.” Commenting on the upcoming removal of Jazz premium hatchback from the Indian passenger car market, the HCIL spokesperson further added, “The launch of new models in 2013 has resulted in changes to our production mix at our Greater Noida plant. Depending on the market response to the new models, we will keep flexibility to make the changes in line with the demand.”

Evidently, the Jazz premium hatch was introduced with a pricey retail value of more than Rs. 7 lakhs that drove away many Indian car buyers from purchasing the model. Later, the Japanese car maker undertook a heavy price clash close to Rs. 1.6 lakhs in 2011, which resulted in a new beginning for Honda Jazz in the domestic passenger car market. The yet-to-be launched Honda Amaze entry level sedan is cited as the next big volume puller for the company. Sources suggest that the Amaze will see Indian daylight in both petrol and diesel powered options, and will take on Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, upon its launch.
