The new Buick Regal GS has been spotted undergoing trials outside Milford proving grounds in the US. A high-performance version of the standard sportback, the Regal GS is expected to get a V6 engine under the hood.

While the regular Buick Regal has already been previewed, this test mule seems to be a high-performance one, christened as Regal GS. It gets an aggressive front fascia with a larger grille and side skirts. It even gets higher-spec brake calipers, hinting at better stopping power. While the standard Regal is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit delivering 250bhp, the Regal GS will house a 3.6-litre V6 under the hood. This engine is expected to churn out 335bhp, with the power going to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Regal GS is expected to be unveiled next year as a 2019 model. The Buick Regal is nothing but a rebadged version of the Opel Insignia, also sold as the Holden Commodore in the Outback. It shares the market space with the likes of the Subaru Legacy, Chrysler 200C, Cadillac ATS and the Volvo S60.
