Bugatti looks to produce the Galibier luxury saloon

Bugatti’s Galibier concept was first unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show, and reports now claim that the company is once again weighing its options to get the development of this car back on track.

If the Galibier four seat luxury saloon gets the green signal, it will compete with the likes of the upcoming replacement for the Rolls-Royce Phantom. While this luxury saloon is expected to be based on a redesigned version of Porsche’s MSB platform, it will also retain the front-engine layout. Being a part of the VW group, the Galibier will finally need to be signed off by them. However, if VW feels that a luxurious SUV is more appropriate, then Bugatti may then need to shift its focus and develop a Bentley Bentayga contender.

Reportedly, Bugatti’s Galibier was set to go into production in 2011, but the company boss Wolfgang Durheimer shifted to Audi in 2013, ceasing development of the car. As Wolfgang Durheimer returned to Bugatti in 2015, he quickly prompted plans to revive the Galibier. The irony here is that even if the Galibier gets an approval, it can only see the light of the day after the shelf life of the Bugatti Chiron. So we are almost a decade away.
