BMW India has produced the first locally made X1 from its plant at Chennai. The crossover was showcased and launched at the Auto Expo at the start of this year.

This BMW X1 is the second-gen vehicle and the first X1 to be underpinned by a front-wheel drive architecture. The crossover is a little bigger than its predecessor and gets a little more space in the cabin than the old one. In terms of appearance and features, the new X1 looks much better than the previous car and gets many new features.

As of now, BMW is only offering the diesel X1 and the petrol will be offered sometime later this year. The oil-burner comes powered by a 2.0-litre diesel mill that belts out 190bhp of power and 400Nm of torque.

The BMW X1 is priced at Rs 29.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and is available in three trims - Expedition, xLine and M Sport. The deliveries are expected to begin this month. It is a good looking entry-level luxury SUV and will compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLA Class and the Audi Q3 in the Indian market.
