Germany based leading luxury car maker BMW has unveiled its long awaited 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. The new engine will replace company’s classic naturally aspirated 3.0L six cylinder mill which it has been using in a series of its car models. The new 2.0L engine is also expected to eventually find its way in a range of BMW India portfolio models, in coming years. The new engine has been codenamed as N20.

Though the company is not revealing much details of the car at the moment, it is expected that the new engine will power the likes of BMW 1-Series, BMW X3, 3-Series, Z4 roadster and 5-Series models in the Indian market.

It is to be mentioned here that the N20 is the first ever four-cylinder petrol engine that will employ BMW's Twin-Power Turbo technology. The new engine comes featured with an all-aluminum crankcase along with a twin-scroll turbo charging system. It also come mated with the advanced version of company’s VALVETRONIC variable valve control system.

The new 2.0L power-train is capable of generating a peak power of 245-horsepower at 5,000 rpm along with a top torque of 35.6 kg/m at mere 1,250 rpm. The fuel consumption and emission level have been decreased considerably in the new BMW engine as compared to the same of its existing 3.0L power-mill.
