BMW AG recently confirmed that it will exhume out a new coupe-like SUV bearing the name X4, in the coming time. The X4 is expected to offer an additional option within SUV segment of BMW products. The company intends to fulfil the need of those buyers who demand an SUV that is placed above its X3 models but below X6, in the overall aspect. BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer was quoted as saying, "Yes, we will position the X4 above the X3,"

The X4 is believed to be inspired by the styling quotient of the X6 coupe-styled crossover, with the standard bullish front end and sloping coupe lines, like that of the bigger in size X6. The coupe-like SUV is likely to lock horns with the Germany-based company Porsche's new compact SUV, the Cajun.

The specifications of the upcoming SUV are still undercover; however, if reports are to be believed, the X4 will be 4650 mm (183 inches) long, which is of the same length as the X3, and 207 mm (8.14 inches) shorter than the X5.

The unparalleled sales performance of the X6, which managed to surpass its own set targets of sales during its launch in 2008, is an important factor which has encouraged the X4 to carry a coupe-like design.

However, the X4 is believed to work on the same lines as the X3 when it comes to power. Moreover, all the models of X4 are likely to possess the BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system.

Thus, BMW, with new products in line, is expected to maintain a decent pace of growth in the Indian market, which is currently facing a serious slowdown.
