BMW India, the largest luxury car maker in the Indian market, on Wednesday stated that it is mulling over the option of entering into the used-car business in the Indian market. The company is also planning to expand its dealership network in the smaller cities in India. The decision has been taken in a bid to boost the company’s footprints in the Indian market along with enhancing its market share.

While speaking to reporters at the occasion of the launch of a new BMW outlet in Pune, Mr. Andreas Schaaf, President at BMW India, said that the German car maker is likely to debut in the pre-owned car business by October 2011.

While further elaborating the importance of smaller cities in the segment of luxury car in India, Mr. Schaaf said, "Premium car business is a network business. BMW is very keen to choose right partners for network development. We are planning to give at least 40 dealerships by the end of 2012."

The major rivals of the company in the Indian market including Mercedes and Audi have already marked their debut in the country’s used car business.
