BMW, the Germany based leading auto major is heading towards announcing a global recall of 9200 units of its mass selling models of eight and 12-cylinder versions of X5, 5, 6, 7 and X6 series along with its small cars sold under the MINI marquee.

The recall will be initiated owing to the possible defect in the cooling pump that has been witnessed in or two models. The production period of the models to be recalled pertains between March and April 2011. The company has revealed that due to the fixation of this faulty cooling pump, there could be a possible overheating in the circuit board which may further lead to an outbreak of fire in the pump or an engine compartment.

The Indian subsidiary of the luxury automaker is also targeting a recall of 3,422 units encompassing the mid-size executive car BMW 5 series and executive coupe and cabriolet BMW 6 series. The Indian recall has been planned for all these models manufactured during 2007 and 2010 owing to the fault in affixing the battery cable cover that may result in an operational failure of the electric system. This the biggest recall recorded by the automaker till date in India.

The global recall of the company is expected to commence from this month where the authorized dealerships will be replacing the defective cooling pump free of charge.
