BMW is ramping up its Dingolfing plant in Germany to start production of the new seventh generation 5 Series (code named G30), and in the process is also marketing the safety functions that will be featured in this saloon.
Giving prospective buyers a preview of the safety and assistance systems, BMW added that the new 5 Series will get the steering and lane control assistant (like the 7 Series). It works with the active cruise control and stop-go function to let drivers keep their hands off the steering wheel. Also on offer is the crossroads warning system which spots cars moving unexpectedly out of a side road without using a turn signal. In these instances, the on-board system warns the driver of a probable collision and allows for braking assistance to kick in.
BMW earlier revealed that the new 5 Series will let owners remotely view their car with the help of some inbuilt cameras which give a bird’s-eye view of the car, and is mainly possible thanks to a smartphone app called “Remote View 3D”. While these are just a few features that BMW is teasing on their upcoming 5 Series, we shall have more information in the months to come.
