BMW has begun the production of the new X3 SUV at their Chennai plant

The 2018 BMW X3 will be manufactured at the Chennai facility where many more BMW cars are presently being manufactured. This includes the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 7 Series, the BMW X1 and the BMW X5. The same plant will soon start producing the MINI Countryman as well.

The X3 has always been one of the best-selling SUVs from BMW's X range. Next month, the latest iteration of the SUV will join the Bavarian automaker's portfolio. The first model of the X3 was launched in 2003 and ever since, over 1.5 million X3s have been sold. Prospective buyers in India have been those who wanted a Rs 50 lakh BMW, but not a sedan. The new one will continue to cater to this demand and will compete against the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Volvo XC60, Land Rover Discovery Sport and the upcoming Audi Q5.

Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, "The all-new BMW X3 is now set to continue the success story, with even more striking and dynamic styling and a luxurious interior. Like all members of the successful X family, it combines outstanding ride quality on all terrains with unlimited everyday practicality. I would like to congratulate BMW Group Plant Chennai team for achieving this important milestone and we are extremely proud for the smooth start of production of the all-new BMW X3."
