BMW Group made clear about their electrification push at the interim conference held recently. The German carmaker wants to extend their electrified vehicle range across the model portfolio in the years to come. Following the intentions, BMW plans three new all-electric products by 2020.
BMW plans three new all-electric products by 2020 – the i8 Roadster which will be revealed next year, a pure electric Mini by 2019, and an all-electric X3 by 2020. BMW’s all-electric vertical called the iNext will debut in 2021 - all produced from its new Dingolfing facility. Dingolfing will, therefore, become the second BMW Group facility after Leipzig to build a fully electric BMW i vehicle. What’s more, all the three electric vehicles produced at Dingolfing will share the line with BMW i3 which is already being produced there. The BMW Group has invested a total of more than 100 million euros in electro-mobility at the Dingolfing site to date. Until now the facility used to manufacture high-voltage batteries for the electrified vehicles under BMW umbrella.
When the new Mini Countryman plug-in hybrid arrives this year, it will bring a total of nine electrified models in the Mini line-up. As of now, the BMW Group produces nine electrified models, including eight plug-in hybrids at its nine manufacturing plants worldwide. BMW has already delivered almost 20,000 electrified models around the globe and aims to reach a total of 1 lakh electric cars this year.
