The Germany based leading luxury car maker BMW has recalled over 32,000 units of its vehicles due to fault in electric auxiliary water pumps. The recall will affect the cars manufactured during the period of year 2008 and 2011. The owners will be notified of this problem from next month, while dealers will be directed to replace the faulty electric auxiliary water pump.

According to the company, the decision of recall has been taken following the reports of problematic electric auxiliary water pumps that can further lead to overheating and can even cause fire. The cars that have been called back due to this problem are the cars with 8 or 12 cylinder turbo charged engines, including BMW 5 series Gran Turismo, 7 Series, X5 SAV and X6 SAV Models.

So far, the company has received over 102 reports of pump failures and 2 incidents of engine compartment fires. However, no reports have been registered of any injuries or accidents due to this problem. The auxiliary pump in these faulty systems sometimes fails to cool the turbocharger, resulting in overheating that can lead to fire.

The fault was first noticed by the company in year 2009, followed by incident of burning electric wire found in a BMW car in April 2010. The company was forced to recall the car with these faulty systems after few more reports of this kind registered.
