The new entry level variants are labelled 520i and 525d, both developed from units featuring an all-aluminium construction. More crucially, these engines comply with the EU6 emissions standard and come from BMW’s modular engine family.

Starting with the petrol-powered 520i, it features a four-cylinder 1,998cc motor that uses BMW’s TwinScroll turbocharging and fully variable valve timing. It produces 184hp and 290Nm, allowing the car to accelerate from zero to 100kmph in 7.8 seconds.

The four-cylinder 525d diesel engine, on the other hand, has an output of 231hp and maximum torque of 500Nm, resulting in a 6.6 second zero to 100kmph time and a 250kmph top speed. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and both are available in SE or M Sport specification.

BMW India will soon be introducing the all-new 5 Series in 530d guise. Post its impending launch, the new 5 will emerge as a strong competitor against the likes of Volvo S90 and Audi A6 with prices ranging between Rs 55 - 65 lakh.
