      BMW K 1300 R and S 1000 RR: The other stars of Dhoom 3

      Fans across India are set for a treat as the highly awaited Aamir Khan-starrer, Dhoom 3, is inching closer to its release. Slated to hit theatres on 20th December, 2013, this film, quite aptly, is being touted as the most awaited release of the year. Yash Raj Films, the production house, has not left any stone unturned to make sure that this movie is a blockbuster and emulates the box collections of Krrish 3 and Chennai Express. Being an Aamir Khan film, Dhoom 3 is certain to have a touch of uniqueness to it. From what can be seen in trailers and promos, it looks to be a complete action extravaganza with some amazing gravity defying sequences. This franchise has always been about superb-looking and extremely fast bikes. And from what it seems, Dhoom 3 is set to transport biking aficionados to another world through thrilling chase-scenes. A unique thing about this film is that the lead members of the cast, Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, will be riding bikes from German giant BMW. While Khan is going to be seen on the BMW K 1300 R, other two will be on the back of an S 1000 RR zipping through the streets of Chicago.

      BMW Motorrad has officially collaborated with Yash Raj Films for Dhoom 3. The official website of the brand, talking about the bikes and stars, says, “Two motorcycles. Two rivals. With 173 bhp and 140 Nm, the BMW K 1300 R is the perfect machine for a thrilling chase. In the movie it finds itself up against the BMW S 1000 RR with 193 bhp and 112 Nm - the bike on which Uday Chopra and Abhishek Bachchan set off in pursuit of Khan. Two high-powered BMW motorcycles meeting as equals - just like Khan and Chopra.”

      S 1000 RR is a superb looking motorcycle that is extremely fast, powerful and loaded with hi-tech features. Aluminium bridge, tail-up nose down design and electronic rider assistance systems are highlights of this mean machine. Critics and fans have marvelled at the kind of technological sophistication this bike is equipped with. BMW S 1000 RR is powered by a four-cylinder engine that has a displacement of 999 cc. It boasts of the digital engine electronics with integrated knock control (BMS-KP). This engine helps this model to deliver a colossal output of 193 bhp and peak torque of 112 Nm. Also, it has a maximum speed in excess of 200 kmph along with a fuel consumption of 5.7 litres per 100 km (at constant 90 kmph).

      On the other hand, Aamir Khan, playing the anti-hero, will be riding the aggressively designed K 1300 R. Many experts consider this bike to be an embodiment of what BMW Motorrad stands for, i.e., technology, speed and ergonomics. The most noticeable thing about this bike is its aerodynamically designed body structure. Along with this, the Bavaria-based manufacturer has kept in mind fuel consumption and exhaust emission factors. This bike is powered by a 1.3-litre engine featuring two overhead camshafts. Featuring the closed-loop 3-way catalytic converter emission control system, BMW K 1300 R can generate maximum output of 173 bhp and top torque of 140 Nm. Like the S 1000 RR, this model also clocks a top speed in excess of 200 kmph.

      Putting all these facts and figures into perspective, it would be safe to say that speed and power will surely be highlights of Dhoom 3. From a business perspective, these BMW Motorrad models are sure to become more popular in India after this film releases. In fact, a relevant precedent can be drawn from the first film of this franchise, which popularised the Suzuki Hayabusa pan-India.
