The company sold a total of 1,027 units of its cars during the month as compared to 605 units sold in the same month last year, accounting for a sales jump of 69.75 per cent.

In a statement given to PTI, BMW India President Andreas Schaaf said, "There is a lot of demand for luxury cars in India and I am not surprised by our March sales. I am expecting another good sales in April as well."

While further elaborating company’s plans of enhancing its production capacity, Mr., Schaaf said, "Our Chennai plant is flexible and we can increase the output with a second shift. It is a no brainer that we will need to have a second shift and we have to decide within the next month on the second shift,"

The closest rivals of BMW India – Audi India & Mercedes Benz – have also posted highest ever monthly sales during the month of March 2011.
