BMW, the German luxury car manufacturer, has finally introduced its flagship product- the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sportscar in the country. The highly rated sportscar is the most expensive car from the Bavarian maker. The plug-in hybrid sportscar was unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show in the presence of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Well, there is no competition for the i8 plug-in hybrid sportscar in the market; however, Jaguar F-Type Coupe R could be a potential rival for the car. Here is a brief spec-based comparison between the i8 and the F-Type Coupe R.
Engine Specifications
While the BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid car, the F-Type Coupe R is propelled by a petrol engine. The i8 is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder twin scroll turbo engine that churns out 231bhp of power and 320Nm of top torque. The front wheels of the car are coupled to an electric motor via a two-stage automatic box, which is good for 131bhp. It is coupled to a 5kWh lithium-ion battery. The combined power output of this hybrid powertrain is 362bhp and 570Nm of torque. The petrol engine is paired to a six-speed automatic box which sends power to the rear wheels of the car.
On the other hand, the Jaguar F-Type Coupe R is powered by a 5000cc, V8 petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 542bhp and a peak torque of 680Nm. This engine is coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox which transmits power to the rear wheels of the car.
Acceleration & Top speed
While the F-Type R Coupe takes just 4.2 seconds to cross 0-100kmph mark, the BMW i8 hybrid takes 4.4 seconds to reach 0-100kmph. Moreover, the F-Type is around 49kmph faster than the hybrid car. It hits a top speed of 299kmph, while the i8 hybrid hits an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
Price:
The BMW i8 Plug-in hybrid sportscar is priced at Rs. 2.29 crore (Pan India). On the other hand, the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe is tagged at Rs. 1.87 crore.
