The BMW i8 Spyder has been spotted doing the rounds at the Nurburgring. The proving grounds for all things speed, this track is a constant in the world of performance and in the case of the i8, it is also the proving grounds for all things green and futuristic.

In the photos, we can see that the i8 Spyder seems to have borrowed all its design elements from the coupe, but with what appears to be an electrically-folding soft top roof that will be positioned between the engine bay and passenger compartment. It appears that the BMW has not strayed too  far from the concept vehicle that it showcased last year. Here, the sections above the passenger compartment have been raised for rollover protection while the glass that is visible in the pictures too will fold into the storage compartment. In silhouette, this convertible i8 retains all the design hallmarks of 8 moniker vehicles originating from the Bavarian automaker’s stables.

There are expected to be no changes in the feature list though it is likely that the Spyder (for obvious reasons) will gain a bit of weight. However, our spy sources suggest that BMW is working on upgrading the electricals which in this case is expected to be a bigger battery thereby translating into a bigger range. The car is expected to make its European debut possibly at Geneva 2018. And sometime around the end of next, it will also make its way to India via the CBU route.
