      BMW i8's demand surpass initial production run

      In 2013, the German luxury car maker, BMW had proclaimed that the new entrant in the hybrid sportscar segment, i8 was sold out for a year after the vehicle was revealed officially. Recently, the car maker announced that the demand for i8 hybrid sportscar is immensely high and has outstripped the initial production run that BMW had thought will suffice the demand.

      Company will commence production of BMW i8 effective April and will start delivering the hybrid supercar to the customers from June 2014. The car will first be seen in European market followed by several other international markets across the globe.

      The supercar is packed with a 1.5 litre, three cylinder, TwinPower turbocharged engine that is harmonized to an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, that pumps out a maximum power output of 360 Bhp. Within 4.4 seconds, the supercar reaches 100 kmph from zero and attains a top speed of 250 Kmph. Company claims to have enhanced the fuel economy and performance of the vehicle. CO2 emission levels are kept as low as 49 gm/km. The concept car first made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009 where it received a hysterical response from the auto enthusiasts. Production version however was unveiled last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show and last month the first hybrid supercar was unveiled at the 12thedition of Auto Expo by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.
