The German luxury car giant, BMW unleashed its much anticipated ‘i’ series futuristic cars i3 and i8, on Friday. These future concept cars are expected to be launched globally in the next 3-4 years. While production level variant of i3 cars are speculated to be introduced in 2013, production level variant i8 will be initiated by 2014.
At the historical moment, Mr Norbert Reithofer, Chairman, Board of Management, BMW AG, said, “We are marking another milestone in the history of the BMW Group. As Chairman of the Board and an engineer myself, I am very proud of this project. As the world’s leading premium car manufacturer, our aim is to offer customers purpose-built electric-drive cars as well.”
The BMW i3 and i8’s structure will be mostly covered with carbon which will add another feather in BMW’s crown for taking this revolutionary initiative. As far as vital features of i3 vehicle go, it will have zero emissions and a range of 150 kms after being fully charged. Acceleration from 0-100 kmph will be in mere 8 seconds with 80 percent of battery charging in just 1 hour. At the same time, i8 will race from 0-100 in less than 5 seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph.
