BMW India has silently launched the 740Li trim to add to the 7 Series line-up in India. The 740Li is priced at Rs 1.26 crore (ex-showroom Delhi) and will be locally assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant.

The 7 Series portfolio in India now gets stronger with two petrol and one diesel engine. Under the hood of the 740Li is a 3.0-litre twin turbo straight-six petrol engine churning out 322bhp of power and 450Nm of torque. The eight-speed Steptronic dual-clutch automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, resulting a 0-100kmph sprint in around 5.6seconds. Top speed is limited to 250kmph and the luxury sedan returns an impressive fuel economy of 12.5kmpl.

The 740Li is only available in the Design Pure Excellence (DPE) trim, so it gets slight cosmetic variations like the chrome treatment on the signature kidney grille, inserts on the rear bumpers and chrome-finished exhaust tips. On the inside, the 740Li is undoubtedly filled to the brim with comfort and safety features the manufacturer has to offer.

The 7 Series portfolio now includes two petrol and one diesel engine in India. Since the 750Li was available only as a CBU, the locally assembled 740Li will be an affordable proposition in the petrol saloon segment from the Bavarian manufacturer. In India, the 740Li will go up against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 400.
