BMW has lifted the curtains over the new 6 Series Gran Turismo, the replacement of the long-running 5 Series GT. With the new 6 Series replacement to be named as the 8 Series, the 6 Series GT gives us an idea as of what to expect from the 6ers in future.
The 6 Series GT sits on the exact same wheelbase as its predecessor, the 5 Series GT but is 87mm longer. It sits 21mm lower and the overall height has been reduced by 64mm to make it look more of a sedan than a crossover. The 6 Series GT is not as bad an eyesore as the 5 Series GT with sleeker lines that effectively hide the ugly proportions.
In spite of the increased dimensions, the 6 Series GT weighs almost 150kg lesser than the 5er and the all-new design has helped open up more space inside the cabin as well as in the humungous boot. Inside, it is a true-blue grand tourer that offers oodles of luxury and comfort features. The seat upholstery is leather and the 6 GT gets three-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, display screen in the centre console along with comfort options like power seats in the front, adjustable rear seats to name a few.
Under the hood, the 6 Series GT will have two petrol engine options to start with – a 2.0-litre 225bhp turbo petrol and a 3.0-litre 335bhp V6 turbo petrol. It will also get a 263bhp 3.0-litre straight six turbodiesel option mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. BMW will offer the X-Drive all-wheel drive system standard with the 3.0-litre mills with the 2.0-litre petrol coming in rear-wheel drive option only.
