When the seventh generation 3 Series is introduced in 2018, BMW is speculated to discontinue the GT variant in its portfolio.

BMW 3 Series GT may be discontinued

The 3 Series GT may not get a replacement once the new 3 Series, codenamed G20, is introduced, according to reports. The 4 Series Gran Coupe will take its place instead as the manufacturer speculates that it doesn’t make sense to have both the model exist side by side in its line-up. The same will happen with the 5 Series GT as it will be substituted with the 6 Series Gran Turismo in the BMW stable. The all-new 6 Series GT is expected to be revealed in September at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The decision to discontinue the 3 GT only after a first generation comes as a surprise. The GT was always a more spacious and comfortable take on the 3 Series sedan, while the 4 Series Grand Coupe is a sleeker and a sportier alternative.

When launched in 2018, the G20 3 Series will borrow its design cues from the facelifted 5 Series. It could have a longer wheelbase than the current F30 3 Series with a stronger sculpted body, new BMW family face and a luxurious cabin. The two-door and touring versions are expected to follow later.
